DBI’s Fire Detection Test Lab has been accredited

With the accreditation of DBI’s new laboratory for testing fire detection systems, it is now possible to meet the high demand in this area.

Manufacturers of fire detection systems will no longer have to wait as long to have their products tested as they previously did. DBI’s new laboratory for testing detection systems in accordance with the EN 54 series has now achieved accreditation (ISO 17025) and is thus the only one of its kind in the Nordic countries.

“Our accredited laboratory will be a great help to manufacturers, who have until now experienced long waiting times for testing due to limited capacity in this field,” says Mathias Revall Delcomyn, Managing Director of DBI’s Fire Detection Test Lab, and continues:

“Among other things, we can test optical smoke detectors, heat detectors, fire panels, power supply equipment for fire panels, and manual call points. In other words, we test components for entire fire detection systems.”

The test equipment in the new facilities includes a smoke tunnel, chambers for both heat and cold testing, a shock and vibration unit, a corrosion cabinet, and a Fire Test Room, where detectors are exposed to real fire and smoke.

“With this setup, we can test smoke, temperature, humidity, vibration, wind speed, and corrosion, among other factors,” explains Mathias Revall Delcomyn.

Holistic solutions

Now that DBI offers accredited testing of detection systems, the testing and certification process becomes more efficient for customers.

“DBI’s subsidiary, DBI Certification, has for many years certified products according to the EN 54 series, but customers have lacked a place where they could both have their products tested and certified. They have that now, because we are located on the same site,” says Mathias Revall Delcomyn, adding:

“In this way, manufacturers can now obtain holistic solutions, which speeds up the process and shortens products’ time to market.”

Accreditation of marine standards as well

The new accreditation covers products for the construction sector, but DBI is now moving on to the next phase, which includes accreditation to relevant marine standards. This accreditation is expected to be in place during 2026.

In addition to accredited testing, DBI also carries out tests for research and development purposes in the new laboratory.
