Insurance company LähiTapiola offers complimentary emergency fire extinguishing training for 100,000 people in 2016. The campaign is part of a wider cooperation between LähiTapiola and The Finnish National Rescue Association SPEK.
Training includes a theory part either as an online course or as a lecture as well as a practical exercise. Those who pass the training receive a First Hand Extinguishing permit (AS1) which is valid for 5 years.
According to the statistics, in 2014 successful emergency fire extinguishing saved one life and prevented 12 injuries as well as financial damages for 20 million euros. The campaign, which was launched in March, has been named Hero training. This is to emphasize that fire extinguishing is a skill of everyday heroism which can prevent massive damages and even save lives.
