On Monday, 11 May 2026, the CFPA-Europe International Conference “Fire Safety: Italy–Europe in Comparison” was held at the Milan Fire Brigade Command (Via Messina 35, Aula Magna). The event was organised by AIAS – Italian Association for Environment and Safety, APPI – Italian Association of Fire Engineers, STZ – Studio Tecnico Zaccarelli, FOIM – Fondazione dell’Ordine degli Ingegneri della provincia di Milano, APT Safety Group and hosted by the Milan Fire Brigade (Comando Provinciale dei Vigili del Fuoco di Milano) qith the active participation of CFPA-Europe and AIAS. The conference brought together fire services, engineers, public authorities, and professional organisations for a high-level international exchange on fire safety, resilience, and emergency management, strengthening collaboration between Italy and Europe. ️ Programme Highlights The conference was officially opened with the presence of @Mauro Caciolai (Commander of Milan’s Fire Brigade), and the speeches of @Edoardo Cavalieri d’Oro (Vice-Commander of Milan’s Fire Brigade), @Elisabetta Carrea (President of CFPA-Europe), @Francesco Santi (President of AIAS and ENSHPO). RescEU CBRN-DSIM-IT | @Edoardo Cavalieri d’Oro: An overview of the innovative fleet of high-tech vehicles developed to respond to international CBRN and civil protection emergencies, highlighting Italy’s operational contribution to the European RescEU framework. Fire Safety Design of Building Envelopes | @Piergiacomo Cancelliere, Commander of Latina’s Fire Brigade: A technical session addressing fire safety challenges in the design and regulation of building façades and envelopes. High-Rise Buildings: Problems and Opportunities | @Davide Luraschi, Vice-President of CIAM and Fire Safety Commission OIM: An analysis of current challenges and emerging opportunities in fire safety design and regulation for high-rise buildings, supported by international case studies. The Grenfell Tower Fire – What Happened? | @John Briggs, Director of CFPA-Europe: A rigorous examination of the Grenfell Tower fire, focusing on the sequence of events and critical lessons for fire safety design, regulation, and operational practice. The presentation reinforced the imperative that lessons from major incidents must be effectively translated into guidance and applied on the ground. DISWATCH: Digital Bridge from CFPA-E to Business Resilience | @Kamila Kempná, Chair of Majaczech • @Jan Smolka, Vice-Chair of Majaczech: This session introduced DISWATCH, a digital platform bridging CFPA-Europe guidelines with practical Business Resilience, demonstrating how guidelines can move beyond theory to actively support risk identification, preparedness planning, emergency response, and recovery. Fire Safety Ventilation in Metropolitana Milanese | @Fabio Dattilo, former Chief of the Italian Fire Rescue Service: A closing technical session examining fire safety ventilation systems in the Milan metropolitan underground network. Conference moderated by @Edoardo Cavalieri d’Oro and @Guido Zaccarelli.
