The popular industry event attracted a new record number of visitors. The lively exchange on current solutions and trends once again took centre stage.
Cologne, December 2024: The VdS-FireSafety Cologne 2024 on 4 and 5 December 2024 was characterised by highly topical information, professional exchange and intensive networking. Over the two days, 4,600 visitors came to the large exhibition hall and the surrounding conference rooms to experience product innovations, hands-on technology, inspiring presentations and stimulating discussions.
The growing number of visitors and the many positive responses once again confirm the VdS-FireSafety Cologne as one of the most important industry events for preventive structural, organisational and technical fire protection in Europe.
Of course also CFPA Europe has been part of the exhibition. John Briggs, director of CFPA Europe, had two busy days on the trade fair.
Guido Breidenich from the European Central Bank, for example, praises the excellent information on offer at the trade fair: ‘The event has been a great success. There are three of us here: one colleague from process engineering, one from fire detection technology and myself as team leader of the engineers at the ECB. All the questions we came with were answered by the exhibitors. The presentations on the trade fair stage were also really good, we listened to about half of them. It was very worthwhile for us to come here.’
Combination of trade fair, expert conferences and much more
The varied programme of the VdS-BrandSchutzTage 2024 once again included a large international trade fair with 150 exhibitors from Germany and abroad, live demonstrations, a job fair and meeting point for training and careers, a colourful supporting programme on the trade fair stage and eight VdS specialist conferences in the adjoining halls.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Cologne, Dr Ralf Heinen.
Stage programme
Three specialist forums could be followed live on stage in the exhibition hall: the ‘Future Forum Fire Protection’ on important future topics, the ‘Exhibitor Forum’ on innovative solutions and the VdS-FireSafetyTalk.
As part of the ‘Future Forum Fire Protection’ and the ‘Exhibitor Forum’, the topics ‘Modern safety chains for CRITIS buildings’, ‘Inclusive fire alarm systems’, ‘Lithium-ion batteries in the workplace’, ‘Fire protection for roofs with photovoltaic systems’, ‘Use of fluorine-free extinguishing foam’ and many more were discussed.
In the two 90-minute rounds of the ‘VdS-FireSafetyTalks’, high-ranking experts discussed the topics ‘FDAS connection conditions for fire brigades – why is standardisation so difficult?’ and ‘Who owns the deviation?’ in front of a packed auditorium.
150 Years of Sprinklers
Another highlight this year was the large special sprinkler area in the exhibition hall. In addition to an exhibition on the subject of ‘150 years of sprinklers’, it included live demonstrations by Danfoss: all guests at the VdS-FireSafety Cologne were able to try out the wall hydrant with the high-pressure spray gun, and many took advantage of the opportunity. The VdS-laboratory also presented a sprinkler testing device to demonstrate how sprinkler heads from old systems are tested for functionality.
On 4 December, the VdS-certificate was presented to Calanbau Brandschutzanlagen GmbH for the product SmartFit, powered by EuroSprinkler. These are the first sprinklers that can be triggered not only thermally but also electrically. This opens up completely new possibilities for fire protection concepts.
Guided tours of the trade fair
Guided tours of the trade fair gave visitors a good overview of interesting innovations. Three students from Furtwangen University had developed a concept for the tours, including special tours for school pupils. The idea: to get young target groups interested in the topic of fire protection and its diverse job profiles. The programme was particularly well received by vocational school students.
First class expert conference
The total of eight expert conferences in the neighbouring congress halls were very well attended or even fully booked. Visitors to the conferences gladly took the opportunity to visit the trade fair and supporting programme before the conference began and during the breaks.
VdS-FireSafety Cologne 2025 on 3. and 4. December
The next VdS-FireSafyte Cologne will take place on 3 and 4 December 2025 – as always at Koelnmesse in exhibition hall 10.1, then on an even larger area and with the additional focus on ‘Structural fire protection’, for which there will also be a special area.
