In 2025, CFPA-E and its commissions achieved significant progress in strengthening fire safety, security, training, and natural hazard prevention, reaffirming their role as a leading European authority in risk reduction and safety.
A key milestone of the year was the advancement of global fire safety awareness. With the endorsement of the United Nations, the Latin American fire safety organization (LATAM), whit the support of CFPA E and other organizations formally proposed 8 October as World Fire Safety Day.
CFPA-E continued to address emerging risks linked to new technologies and energy systems. The Fire Safety Commission published Guideline No. 44: “Fire Safety Recommendations for Electric Vehicles”, providing comprehensive guidance on the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of EV charging infrastructure in both public and private settings. In parallel, work progressed on the development of Hydrogen Safety guidelines, addressing risks associated with hydrogen production, storage, and use.
The Training Commission focused on harmonizing training standards across member countries. Key actions included updates to the Training Centre Handbook, revisions to course templates, and the reinforcement of quality assurance processes through mandatory internal and external evaluations. The training portfolio was expanded with new courses on Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Protection, Risk Management of Hazardous Materials, and Hospital Fire Safety Management.
In the area of Security, the Security Commission revised Guideline No. 10 S on the Protection of Business Intelligence and introduced Guideline No. 14 S, which addresses Security Requirements for the Rental, Storage, and Exhibition of Art Objects.
The Natural Hazards Commission (NHC) entered a new phase in 2025 under the leadership of Dr. Jan Smolka, elected at the CFPA-E General Assembly in May. The Commission coordinated a full revision of six core guidelines, launched new workstreams on blackouts and landslides, and developed targeted questionnaires to better reflect end-user needs. Knowledge-sharing efforts were expanded through the creation of a Europe-wide case study repository, enhanced digital content, and strengthened collaboration among member organizations.
CFPA Marketing and Information Commission strengthened the organization’s visibility and outreach activities. A new informational brochure was developed to promote the work carried out by the committees in the fields of Fire Safety, Security, and Natural Hazards. In addition, eight newsletters were distributed throughout the year to keep stakeholders informed of key developments and initiatives. The Commission also represented CFPA at major international trade fairs and industry events, including the VdS Fair in Cologne (Germany), Safety Expo in Bergamo (Italy), and the Safety, Security and Rescue Expo in Helsinki (Finland), further enhancing CFPA’s engagement with professionals and partners across Europe.
Overall, 2025 was a year of strategic development and international cooperation, further consolidating CFPA-E’s commitment to safety, resilience, and professional excellence.
From the CFPA Europe team, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2026
